An improper fraction is a fraction whose numerator is greater than or equal to  its denominator.

Summary

SUBTRACTING IMPROPER FRACTIONS

  • Check if the fractions have the same denominators. If they do not have the same denominators, get the LCD (Least Common Denominator) of the fractions to get their equivalent fractions.   
  • By writing their equivalent fractions, you can now subtract the numerators and copy the denominator. 
  • Reduce your answer in lowest term if possible. Also, if your answer is in improper fraction, you have to rewrite it as a mixed number
