Brief Description Time is used to quantify, measure or compare the duration of events or the intervals between them, and even sequence events. This concept is one of the basic lessons in math. This is being introduced to 1st graders. They will learn how to tell and read time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks. As they proceed to the next levels, they unlock the following competencies: telling and reading time in hours and minutes, distinguishing AM and PM, add and subtract time, and solve word problems related to time.
Importance of the Topic As the old saying goes, “Time is gold”. Learning time does not mean you will earn gold bars after each discussion. Instead, learning time creates an opportunity for young learners to value the essence of time. They must develop a good sense of time management at school and home. They must learn to schedule their activities and prioritize which ones are urgent and important to do.
Application of the Learned Topic in Life Understanding time is helpful in cooking, doing household chores, going to school, setting an appointment, recording time, etc. When our learners have a clear understanding of time concepts, they will be more functioning individuals who are responsible for their own and other people’s time.
