What is a Quadrilateral?
- A quadrilateral is a two-dimensional figure that has exactly four sides, four vertices and four angles.
TYPES OF QUADRILATERALS
|RECTANGLE||Opposite sides are parallel and equal.All angles are 90º.The diagonals bisect each other.|
|SQUARE||Opposite sides are parallel and all sides are equal.All angles are 90º.Diagonals bisect each other at right angles.|
|TRAPEZOID||It has one pair of opposite sides parallel.It has non-parallel sides equal and its base angles are equal, as shown in the diagram.|
|RHOMBUS||All sides are equal and opposite sides are parallel.Opposite angles are equal.The diagonals bisect each other at right angles.|
|KITE||Two pairs of adjacent sides are equal.One pair of opposite angles is equal.Diagonals intersect at right angles.The longest diagonal bisects the shortest diagonal into two equal parts.|
|PARALLELOGRAM||Opposite sides are parallel and equal.Opposite angles are equal.Diagonals bisect each other|
AREA OF OTHER QUADRILATERALS
Rectangle – Formula: A = b x h
Square – Formula: A = b2
Parallelogram – Formula: A = b x h
Trapezoid – Formula: A = ½ (a+b)h
Rhombus – Formula using base and height: A = ½ (a+b)h
Formula using diagonals: A = ½ (D1 x D2)
Kite – Formula: A = ½ (D1 x D2)
