A Cartesian Plane is a two-dimensional xy-coordinate system formed by two perpendicular number lines called the axes, intersecting at a point called the origin (0,0). It is sometimes called a rectangular coordinate system, cartesian coordinate system or x-y plane.

X-axis is the horizontal number line on the Cartesian plane.

Y-axis is the vertical number line on the Cartesian plane.

The axes divide the Cartesian plane into four regions called quadrants, labelled counterclockwise I, II, III, IV.
