Definition

Partial products is a multiplication strategy used to break down larger multiplication problems into smaller, easier-to-solve parts. Instead of multiplying whole numbers all at once, each digit is multiplied separately according to its place value, and the results (called partial products) are added together to find the final answer.

For example, to solve 23×1423 \times 14:23×14=(20×10)+(20×4)+(3×10)+(3×4)23 \times 14 = (20 \times 10) + (20 \times 4) + (3 \times 10) + (3 \times 4)=200+80+30+12=322= 200 + 80 + 30 + 12 = 322

This method helps students understand how multiplication works through place value and area models.
