What is Fractional and Negative Exponents?

The exponent is the number that tells how often the base is used or taken as a factor.

Fractional Exponent Law

If the base (b) has a fractional exponent ( $\frac{m}{n}$  ), then it is equal to its radical form, where the base is the radicand (b), the numerator of the exponent is the power (m), and the denominator of the exponent is the index (n).

Negative Exponent Law

If the base (b) has a negative exponent (-n), then it is equal to the reciprocal of the base raised to the absolute value of the exponent.
