Definition

Patterns with shapes and objects are arrangements of items that repeat according to a specific rule. These patterns can be created using different shapes, colors, sizes, or objects in a sequence. Common examples include repeating patterns such as AB (circle, square, circle, square), AAB (triangle, triangle, star, triangle, triangle, star), and ABC (red block, blue block, green block, red block, blue block, green block). Learning patterns helps students recognize order, predict what comes next, and develop early mathematical reasoning skills.

Recognizing and creating patterns with shapes and objects is an important foundation for mathematical thinking.
