Definition

Measures of Central Tendency (Grouped) are statistical values that identify the center or typical value of a data set that has been organized into class intervals or groups. They represent the point around which most of the data values tend to cluster. The three common measures of central tendency for grouped data are the mean, median, and mode.

Summary

When data are grouped into classes, direct calculation of central tendency measures using individual data points is not possible. Instead, formulas are used that rely on the class intervals, frequencies, and midpoints.
