1.Think of your neighborhood.  What congruent figures do you see? 

Possible examples include street signs, windows, car tires, and lawns.

2. What transformation would map your right shoe onto your left shoe? Explain.

A reflection would map your right shoe on your left shoe because your right shoe is a mirror image of your left shoe. They would not fit both your feet if one shoe was not a reflection of the other.

3.Explain why a car driving straight is a different transformation than a car turning a corner?

The car driving straight is a translation and the car turning the corner includes a rotation.

4. Think of the transformations that occur in sports. Name sports where athletes make reflections, rotations, and translations.

Reflection: Scrimmage line on a football field, partners facing each other in dance.
Rotation: Ice skater doing an axel, basket ball player moving down the court
Translation: Hockey player moving the puck from side to side, baseball player running from first to second base.
