Definition

Translation is any point in the coordinate plane that is moved by the same amount and in the same direction. It is said to be translated rigidly, which indicates that the object being translated has its position, size, and shape altered.

Summary

Coordinate is a real number associated with a point on the number line. A point that lies along the x-axis has an ordinate (y-coordinate) equal to zero.

A point along the y-axis has an abscissa (x-coordinate) equal to zero.

The pair of coordinates is called ordered pair P(x, y).

x − axis is the horizontal number line on the Cartesian plane.

y − axis is the vertical number line on the Cartesian plane.

The axes divide the Cartesian plane into four regions called quadrants.

If x = 0, then the point is on the y-axis.

If y = 0, then the point is on the x-axis.
