In this activity you will experiment with different everyday items that are found round the house to explore greater and less than concepts using smaller and larger numbers.
|Step||You and your child|
|Lay out two plates.|
|Put five pennies on one plate and three on the other plate.||Which plate has more pennies, macaroni, marbles, pencil crayons, pebbles, or whatever ? Which plate has less?|
|By using items found around the house you are continuing to reinforce the concept that Math is all around us.|
The above activity was created by Diane Massie, a HelpingWithMath.com contributor. It is part of her Handling Math program.
