June 1 – International Children’s Day

International Children’s Day was first celebrated on June 1st, 1950, following a proclamation by the Women’s International Democratic Federation during its congress in Moscow.

June 5 – World Environment Day

World Environment Day, observed on June 5th each year, is a United Nations initiative to raise awareness and promote action for protecting and preserving the environment.

June 8 – World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day was first observed on June 8th, 1992, following a declaration at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

June 14 – National Flag Day

National Flag Day, celebrated on June 14th each year in the United States, commemorates the adoption of the country’s flag in 1777.

3rd Sunday of June – Father’s Day

In the US, Father’s Day was first observed on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington. It was initiated by Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to honor her Civil War veteran father.

June 19 – Juneteenth

Juneteenth commemorates the arrival of Union soldiers in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of slavery in the state on June 19, 1865.
