Definition:
Practically in everyday of our lives, we look at the relationship between things or quantities. In this worksheet, we will understand more the concepts about ordered pairs and the difference between relations and functions.
Summary:
An ordered pair number is a pair of numbers in the form of (x, y) or (input, output). The first number corresponds to the x-coordinate or as an INPUT and second number to the y-coordinate or as an OUTPUT.
A relation is any set of ordered pairs. It is a set of pairs of INPUT and OUTPUT values. The set of first coordinates is called the domain of the relation. The set of second coordinates is called the range of the relation.
Example:
In the relation, {(1, 4), {-2, 6), (1, 2), (4, -3)},
The domain is {-2, 1, 4} and range is {-3, 2, 4, 6}. Note that we write the same element in the domain or range once.
