Definition

Rational numbers are numbers that can be written as a fraction in the form $\frac{a}{b}$ , where $a$ and $b$ are integers and $b \neq 0$ . Their decimal forms either terminate or repeat.
Irrational numbers are numbers that cannot be expressed as a ratio of two integers. Their decimal forms are non-terminating and non-repeating.

The properties of rational and irrational numbers describe how these two types of numbers behave under basic mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
