Definition
Expanded notation is a way of writing a whole number to show the value of each digit based on its place value. Instead of writing the number in its standard form, each digit is written as the value it represents and connected with addition. For example, the number 4,582 in expanded notation is written as 4,000 + 500 + 80 + 2.
