Let’s celebrate World Engineering Day!

World Engineering Day is observed every year on March 4. The day is celebrated annually to commemorate the contributions of engineers to the nation. Engineers plan and oversee the construction, rebuilding, and maintenance of roads, bridges, tunnels, railways, dams, power plants, and airports.

Understanding Coordinates

Coordinates (Cartesian coordinates) are two numbers, or sometimes a letter and a number, that locate a specific point on a grid, known as a coordinate plane.

Coordinates are always two numbers separated by a comma and enclosed in parentheses.

  • The two number lines define a flat surface called a plane, and each point on this plane is associated with an ordered pair of real numbers (x,y).
  • The horizontal number line is called the x-axis, and the vertical number line is called the y-axis.
  • The first number is called the x-coordinate or abscissa, and the second number is called the y-coordinate or ordinate
  • The intersection of the two axes is known as the origin, which corresponds to the point (0,0).
