Definition:

The concept of addition is merely defined or classified as finding the total value of 2 or more digit numbers. In the other context, place value will provide a crucial role in adding 4- digit numbers as it will serve as a guide to properly perform the addition.

WHAT IS PLACE VALUE?

It is the value represented by a digit in a number with the basis of its position in the group of number.

WHAT IS ADDITION?

It is finding of the total result or sum by combining two or more numbers.

The numbers we add are called ADDENDS and the answer of an addition equation is called SUM.

Examples:

Add: 587 and 251

STEP 1 – Line up the numbers according to place value and add the ONES
STEP 2 – Add the TENS
8 + 5 = 13
Regroup 1 hundred and 3 tens
STEP 3 – Add the HUNDREDS. Don’t forget to add the number 1 above the number 5.

NOTE – We start from the right and move to the left when we are adding. After adding each place, check your answer. If the sum is 10 more, and then REGROUP.
