Understanding Adding Integers Using the Number Line!
Integer is a signed whole number. It includes 0 and all positive and negative whole numbers.
A number line is a line that represents numbers visually. It may either be horizontal or vertical.
To add integers using the number line,
- Locate the first addend on the number line.
- From the location of the first addend, move as many units as the second addend:
- to the right, if the second addend is positive;
- to the left, if the second addend is negative.
- The sum of the given numbers is the number represented by the point reached from the previous step.
