Absolute value shows how far a number is from zero. It is a number which is non-negative and does not regard to its sign. It is always referred as |x|, x being the number.
Summary:
When you are asking for the absolute value of a number, its symbol should always accompany the number. The symbol, “|” should come at both sides of a number.
The negative sign of its number should also be removed, and all numbers should be treated as positive numbers.
Example:
4 is four times away from 0, and -4 is four times away from 0. Therefore, the absolute value of 4 is 4 and -4 is still 4.
