Think of subtraction as finding the difference between 2 numbers. As long as they both increase by the same amount, the difference will always remain the same.

For example, if you work for 32 hours and your friend works 28 hours, the difference is 4 hours. If you then both work an another 12 hours, the difference is still 4 hours.

Use this idea to make the subtractions below easier. Add to the bottom number to make a multiple of 10 and then add that same number to the top number before doing the subtraction. The first one is done for you.

 83 +2 85 - 38 +2 -  40 45
 93 +2 95 - 58 +2 -  60 35
 85 +3 88 - 47 +3 -  50 38
 72 +4 76 - 46 +4 -  50 26
 64 +2 66 - 58 +2 -  60 6
 56 +3 59 - 37 +3 -  40 19

--------- Page Break-------------

 42 +5 47 - 25 +5 = -  30 17
 97 +2 99 - 68 +2 = -  70 29
 83 +3 86 - 47 +3 -  50 36
 75 +4 79 - 56 +4 -  60 19
 67 +2 69 - 38 +2 -  40 29
 57 +1 58 - 29 +1 -  30 28
 44 +2 46 - 28 +2 -  30 16
 91 +5 96 - 75 +5 -  80 16

--------- Page Break-------------

 84 +3 87 - 67 +3 = -  70 17
 72 +4 76 - 36 +4 = -  40 36
 62 +2 64 - 28 +2 -  30 34
 56 +3 59 - 37 +3 -  40 19
 92 +1 93 - 19 +1 -  20 73
 62 +5 67 - 25 +5 -  30 37
 41 +3 44 - 17 +3 -  20 24
 83 +1 84 - 49 +1 -  50 34
