Reteach: Division & MultiplesMultiplication and division are inverse operations. This means that one can be “undone” by the other. Because they are related in this way, you can use division to decide whether or not one number is a multiple of another. To decide whether 18 is a multiple of 5, determine whether or not 5 can divide evenly into 18. Since there is a remainder of 3, 5 does not divide evenly into 18. So,18 is not a multiple of 5. To decide whether 36 is a multiple of 9, determine whether or not 9 can divide evenly into 36. Since there is no remainder, 9 does divide evenly into 36. So, 36 is a multiple of 9. |
